For as long as I can remember, I have been drawing. Art has always been an effective way of expressing myself. At age seventeen I painted for the first time and haven't stopped! I've always had a thirst for visual art and over the years I've pretty much tried all mediums, like colored pencils, watercolor, acrylic, oil, clay, etc. I quickly realized that I don't just like to make art but I also enjoy teaching others about art. To follow this passion I started working with a fine art program that teaches children all about art and it's been one of my most fulfilling achievements. One of the things I love the most about teaching is actually how much I'm learning from the students! At the end of the day, art (like pretty much everything else in life) is about learning: learning from others, from within, and from our 'opportunities to explore', not mistakes and of course you should always enjoy the process. I hope to see you soon so we can learn from each other!

I grew up in Alaska and spent my childhood being taught to hunt and fish and spent every weekend in the woods camping, where I got much of my influence to draw as I was being overwhelmed simply by the beauty of nature. I discovered I had a natural talent in art and my teachers pushed me to continue with art. Throughout elementary, middle school and even on into high school, my work had been entered on five separate occasions into the Anchorage Museum to display my talent. Once in high school I was enrolled in an honors program where your studies are centralized around art. I received an award for 2nd place in drawing, and two honorable mentions for works in metal at a school competition. I decided I needed to leave the small town and pursue a career within the arts, which is when I moved to New York and landed myself in the Bachelors program of fine arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I became passionate about photography and painting, and love learning more and more about printmaking and sculpture. I have been published in ICON magazine 2015, and I hope to continue on this slow but steady path to success. I want to be able to share a bit of my knowledge with people and hope they'll realize art is not only about the visual esthetics of the end product, but it is about the spiritual and physical journey you take as you connect with your painting.

She believes in the importance of creativity as a tool for development, self-esteem, and self-discovery. Sophie specializes in oil portraiture and fiber sculpture, and she has done several large murals, the most notable of which was a 65ftx20ft exterior wall in Chappaqua, NY in conjunction with the Chappaqua Children's Book Festival. Aside from making art and working with kids, Sophie's interests include dwarf hamsters, Phish concerts, and all things Harry Potter.
